What is the selection criteria for Open Biology?
Open Biology is an online journal that welcomes original, high quality research in cell and developmental biology, molecular and structural biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, immunology, microbiology and genetics.
The criteria for acceptance are:

Original, high quality research of broad interest

Compliance with appropriate ethical standards

Experimental protocols/procedure and statistical analysis performed to a high technical standard

Article published in Open Biology are immediately citable when published online.
The latter part of the citation is derived from the article identifier in the Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
TopWhat is the DOI?
The DOI is a unique, permanent code assigned any digital item such as a journal article. Since 1999, each article published in Royal Society journals has been assigned a unique DOI. The DOI is used by many of the major science publishers and has become an industry standard. Each DOI is assigned and maintained in a central registry managed by the International DOI Foundation. Utilising a DOI, a referenced article can be electronically located -the DOI is resolved to find the current URL of the item.

No permission is required from the authors/publisher so long as the original authors and source are cited.

Our open access policies are fully compliant with the requirements of the Wellcome Trust, NIH, MRC, NERC, STFC, ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC and a number of other funding bodies.
Note: to conform to some mandates authors are required to take the gold route (i.e. open access funded by article processing charges). Authors should ensure that they have funds available prior to article submission. Please see here for more information.

Authors publishing in Open Biology can disseminate their articles under a Creative Commons Attribution Licence, allowing them to post the final published version on repositories as soon as the article is published.
